The Château d'Archambault was originally a hunting lodge built at the beginning of the 19th century for the family of Louis Nicolas d’Avout, better known has Davout, duc of Auerstaedt, prince of Eckmühl, Marshal of the Empire, one of the great leaders of French military history, born in 1770 at Annoux (in the department of Yonne).
The domain was then sold to one Monsieur Masson, chef and confident to the emperor Napoleon the 3rd. The main building was restyled at the end of the 19th century as was then fashionable : a new wing and turret, French windows on the façade, and a vaste kitchen, so that the chef could continue excercising his talent. The property stays in the family until 1995.
At this point The Château d'Archambault undergoes refurbishment and progressively becomes a wonderful place where French and international lovers of peace and tranquility rub shoulders in the midst of a particularly well preserved countryside with rivers and forests, valleys and pathways inviting promenades or hikes. |
